Habakkuk 3:19 - The Sovereign LORD is my strength

The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights.

The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.

The Lord GOD is my strength, And He has made my feet like hinds' feet, And makes me walk on my high places.

Commentary

"The Lord God" - Here the divine name Yahweh is tied to the term Adonai, which means "Lord." my strength: God will strengthen those who trust in Him (Ps. 18:32, 39). He will give those who live by faith the same confidence that a surefooted deer has in climbing mountains (Mal. 4:2). Like a victorious army, the righteous with God's strength will occupy the high hills.

1 Corinthians 9:16 - Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

Yet when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, for I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for I am under compulsion; for woe is me if I do not preach the gospel.

Commentary

The apostle Paul, who often refers to himself as a slave for Christ in the New Testament, was called to teach and preach the Gospel. While all Christians are not called to full-time ministry, our very lives should reflect the Gospel to those around us. Indeed, "woe to us" if we do not!
