If a man pays back evil for good, evil will never leave his house. |
Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house. |
He who returns evil for good, Evil will not depart from his house. |
Proverbs 17:13 |
Commentary
A curse rests upon the house of any man who repays a kindness with an injury. David repaid his loyal general, Uriah, with treachery, and, as a result, brought misery upon his house (2 Sam. 12:9, 10).

The wise do not return evil for good. The NT teaches us to go beyond this, even to return good for evil (Rom. 12:17, 21).
