Daily Bible Verse - 10/12/2007 - John 5:24

NIV I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.
KJV Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
NASB Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
John 5:24
Commentary
Not only is Jesus the Son of God. He is the Savior, the source of everlasting life. "Most assuredly," Jesus stated, "he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlastingly life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life" (v. 24). In these words Jesus states in another form what He told Nicodemus: "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).

Death to Life
Jesus Christ has transferred us from death to life (1 John 3:14) by destroying the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). God made Jesus a "propitiation" (1 John 2:2; 4:10) in order to forgive sin (1 John 1:7-9; 2:12; 3:5). As a propitiation, Jesus is our "Advocate with the Father" (1 John 2:1) who takes away the guilt of our wrongdoing and gives us confidence to approach the judgment seat of God (1 John 2:28; 4:17). Jesus Christ is both the Son of God and the bearer of sin, the eternal demonstration of the love of God.
