Daily Bible Verse - 11/06/2007 - Hebrews 10:36

NIV You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
KJV For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
NASB For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.
Hebrews 10:36
Commentary
What they needed was endurance, the determination to remain under the persecutions rather than escape them by denying Christ. Then after having done the will of God, they would receive the promised reward.

Did you know?
The recipients of this book
(Hebrews) have already endured the sufferings of persecution. The writer implied they would face more such adversity. These verses provide insight into the nature of most persecutions prior to the executions of Nero in a.d. 64-65. They involved mob action, public ridicule, and plundering of property, all of which the authorities ignored.

Daily Bible Verse - 11/5/2007 - Galatians 6:9

NIV Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
KJV And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
NASB Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.
Galatians 6:9
Commentary
Lest any should become discouraged, Paul reminds his readers that the rewards are certain, even if not immediate. You do not harvest a field of wheat the day after you sow the seed. So in the spiritual realm, the rewards surely follow faithful sowing in due season.

Works
In this verse, Paul speaks of doing good. The apostle has argued at length that such works cannot justify (2:16) or sanctify (3:3) anyone. However, good works are, in fact, an important fruit of the life of faith (5:5) that God has planned for each believer (Eph. 2:8-10).
