When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. |
This Scriptural account comes to us as God visits King Solomon in a dream after he has built the temple. At the peak of national power and prosperity God is telling Solomon what to do when judgment comes upon a land. It is interesting that God says that He will send the drought and the famine. Why? Ultimately God's judgment belongs only to God and not to us. Our part is to humble ourselves, admit our wickedness and pray for God to heal our land. To do this is to eat from the Tree of Life and not from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
