Matthew 4:2-4 - Man does not live on bread alone

NIV After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"

As Jesus was fasting and praying, he came directly into the path of his adversary. We are surrounded by obstacles, yet it is only when we set ourselves aside to pray, fast, and seek God's face that we become aware of all that is around us. It is in the place of prayer that we come to grips that as great as food is, we were made to be sustained by God's words. A life lacking prayer is a life lacking perspective.
