Daily Bible Verse - 1/9/2008 - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

NIV Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
KJV What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
NASB Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Commentary

The Christian should honor and care for his body as the very sanctuary of God. We no longer belong to ourselves, but to God, who purchased us as a prized possession through the gracious giving of His Son.

Old Testament / New Testament
In the Old Testament, The Shekinah glory of Yahweh filled the tabernacle (Ex. 40:34) and the temple (1 Kin. 8:10, 11). Now, the glory of God in the person of the Holy Spirit dwells within every believer (John 14:16, 17) and thus inhabits the entire church. The OT priests took great pains to maintain a pure sanctuary for God's presence. Every Christian ought also to care diligently for his body, the temple of the Holy Spirit, in order to honor God and the church.
