Isaiah 1:17 - Defend the cause of the fatherless

Compassion Week - Day 1

Today the team and I are visiting a Compassion project in Quito, Ecuador. The project we are visiting serves infants and their mothers through Compassion's Child Survival Program as well as Compassion's traditional Christian child sponsorship program. This project, like all Compassion projects, is church based and administered through a local church and body of believers. I am looking forward to posting pictures and details tomorrow.

Isaiah 1:17
NIV learn to do right!
Seek justice,
encourage the oppressed.
Defend the cause of the fatherless,
plead the case of the widow.
KJV Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
NASBLearn to do good;
Seek justice,
Reprove the ruthless,
Defend the orphan,
Plead for the widow.
Isaiah 1:17

Commentary

Concern for orphans and widows in need is a demonstration of godliness (James 1:27). Children and widows are often powerless in a hostile world and need caring individuals to speak and act on their behalf. Because God cares deeply for poor orphans and widows, so should we!

Matthew 28:18-20 - Therefore go and make disciples of all nations

Compassion Week

This week I have the privilege to travel with a team from Compassion International to Ecuador. We arrive in Ecuador tonight and we will be visiting several Compassion project sites during the week. We are excited about serving this week and will update this section daily with details from our trip. Please keep our team in your prayers and we look forward to sharing this experience with you.

Matthew 28:18-20
NIV Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
KJV And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
NASBAnd Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth."Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Matthew 28:18-20

Commentary

In these verses, known as The Great Commission, Jesus commands His disciples to go, to baptize, and to make disciples everywhere. God's plan to make disciples of people throughout the world is part of His overall, long-term objective of making His name great among the nations (Mal. 1:11).
