Deuteronomy 20:4 - For the LORD your God is the One who goes with you to fight

NIV For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.
KJV For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
NASB for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
Deuteronomy 20:4

Commentary

The army was to put their trust in the Lord, even if they saw that the enemy had horses, chariots, and more troops. Moses reminds Israel that the Lord would give them victory.
Before the army went into battle, the priest was to exhort the soldiers. In modern terminology, these were the chaplains who spoke to the men before they faced possible death. These priests were called the "anointed of the battle." They gave the army a threefold assurance: (1) the Lord goeth with you; (2) He will fight for you; and (3) He will save you.

Romans 12:19 - "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord

NIV Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.
KJV Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
NASB Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY," says the Lord.
Romans 12:19

Commentary

Quoting from the Mosaic law (Deut. 32:35), the apostle reminds his readers that it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord (cf. 2 Sam. 22:48; Nah. 1:2; Heb. 10:30). In His divine time, the wrath of God will come (Col. 3:6), and just retribution awaits the unforgiven.

"God has long ago settled the whole matter about exacting justice from wrongdoers. Not one of them will escape. Perfect justice will be done in every case and will be done perfectly."
