Hospitality means "love of strangers." The primary reference is to housing travelers, though all forms of hospitality are included.

Psalm 41:1 - Blessed is he who has regard for the weak

Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble.

Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.

How blessed is he who considers the helpless; The LORD will deliver him in a day of trouble.

Commentary

As David lay sick, he looked back and recalled that he had been merciful to others and had helped the poor. This encouraged him, for he knew that God would help him (Deut. 15:1-11). God is merciful to those who show mercy to others (Matt. 5:7).

The historical occasion of the psalm probably reflects the betrayal of David by his faithless friend Ahithophel, who sided with Absalom when the latter sought to usurp his father's throne (cf. 2 Sam. 15-17). This verse is certainly reflected in the fifth beatitude (cf. Matt. 5:7).
