2 Corinthians 12:9-10 - For when I am weak, then I am strong.

But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. Commentary

The present tense of the verb translated "is sufficient" reveals the constant availability of divine grace. God would not remove the thorn, as Paul had requested, but would continually supply him with grace to endure it (cf. 1 Cor. 15:10; Phil. 4:13; Col. 1:29). The weaker the human instrument, the more clearly God's grace shines forth. Paul took no pleasure in the pain itself, but rejoiced in the power of Christ that it revealed through him.

The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts. He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor. Commentary

The pillars of the earth is poetic imagery. Since the very "pillars" that uphold the earth belong to God, all creation is stable and secure under His care. In line with the pattern of ancient wisdom literature, Hannah contrasted the righteous and the wicked. The Lord would keep His saints from stumbling, but the adversaries of the Lord would face certain calamity. The Hebrew word for anointed means "Messiah." This phrase points to the ultimate King, before whom every knee shall bow (Phil. 2:10).
