Proverbs 1:19 - ill-gotten gain takes away the lives of those who get it

NIV Such is the end of all who go after ill-gotten gain;
it takes away the lives of those who get it.
KJV So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
NASB So are the ways of everyone who gains by violence;
It takes away the life of its possessors.

Commentary

This particular passage deals with the attempt to get rich through violence (see verses 8-18), but the application is wider. Any get-rich-quick scheme is included.

Proverbs 1:10 - If sinners entice you...

NIV My son, if sinners entice you,
do not give in to them.
KJV My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
NASB My son, if sinners entice you,
Do not consent.

Commentary

Here is a warning against enticement by sinners who will succeed if his son fails to embrace wisdom (v. 8).

Sinners -This term is reserved in Scripture to describe unbelievers for whom sin is continual and who endeavor to persuade even believers to sin with them.
