Matthew 6:22 - The eye is the lamp of the body

NIV The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.
KJV The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

In the middle of His teaching about the dangers of serving two masters and storing up treasures on Earth, Jesus used this analogy to help explain the importance of what to focus your eyes and your life on.

It is through the eye that the body can see. If the eye is good, the whole body is flooded with light. But if the eye is bad, then vision is impaired and filled with darkness.

He went on to say that if we fill our life with His teachings, light will flood our lives. We will serve Him and not money, and we will store up treasures in Heaven alone.

Jesus knows that our true security is in Him. In knowing that, he urges us to flood our lives with His light, pushing out all crevasses of darkness.

1 Corinthians 13:3 - If I have not love, I gain nothing...

NIV If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
KJV And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

Jesus tells us that love is the key to life. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself" - Matthew 22:37-38 (NIV).

The Bible tells us that God is love. He loved us so much that He sent His son to die for us so we can have a relationship with Him.

Giving is important. Sacrifice is significant. But loving God and others needs to be the focus of our lives. And when we truly grasp this concept - everything else falls into place.
