Daily Bible Verse - 6/13/2007 - Hebrews 12:7

Today's Verse

Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? (NIV)

If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? (KJV)

It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? (NASB)

Hebrews 12:7

Commentary

Because all are imperfect and need discipline and training, all true children of God are chastened at one time or another, in one way or another.

In Roman society an
illegitimate son was one who had no inheritance rights. Without enduring discipline (literally, child training), believers are not sons in the sense that they are not like their Father (2:10). Neither do they receive an inheritance or reward (1:14) in the Kingdom.

Daily Bible Verse - 6/12/2007 - Matthew 3:17

Today's Verse

And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." (NIV)

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. (KJV)

and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased." (NASB)

Matthew 3:17

Commentary

The Father's
voice was heard from heaven pronouncing His blessing on Jesus. It was a memorable event because the voice of God was heard quoting Scripture: "This is My beloved Son (from Ps. 2:7) in whom I am well pleased"(from Isa. 42:1). This is one of three occasions when the Father spoke from heaven in delighted acknowledgment of His unique Son (the other places are Matt. 17:5 and John 12:28).
