Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers. (NIV)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. (KJV)

How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,

Commentary

walks not - Nor stands - Nor sits. The "beatitude" man (cf. Matt. 5:3-11) is first described as one who avoids such associations as these which exemplify sin's sequential downward drag.

Today's Verse

Blessed are they who keep his statutes
and seek him with all their heart. (NIV)

Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.(KJV)

How blessed are those who observe His testimonies,
Who seek Him with all their heart. (NASB)

Commentary

It is obedience to His testimonies that counts-not a reluctant, half- hearted, feet-dragging obedience, but a deep, enormous desire to please Him with the whole heart!

Psalm 119 is an acrostic poem.

Each paragraph of the psalm begins with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. This poem is the longest psalm in the Book of Psalms, as well as the longest chapter in the Bible. This hymn of praise magnifies and extols the Word of God. Various terms used for the Law of the Lord include "word" (v. 9), "testimonies" (v. 46), "precepts" (v. 28), "statutes" (v. 33), "commandments" (v. 60), and "judgments" (v. 102). Those who obey God's Law experience His blessing and are protected from sin (v. 11; see Matt. 4:1-11). God's Word stands forever (Ps. 119:89; see Is. 40:8; 1 Pet. 1:24, 25), providing light and guidance through life (see John 8:12).
